i was in the studio the other day and we recorded a quick demo, as a starting point for a new song. what is significant about this is that i was working with a producer other than myself. i was just the artist in the room and in the modern era of music production this seems to be quite a confusing place to be. at least for me it has been.

it was interesting because i had never really worked this way. i'm used to working on my own, producing all my own music and being completely in control of everything that happens. in this case i didn't have to touch the controls at all.

i think part of me really longs for that cause i only ever took the controls in the first place out of necessity. no one else was there to do it so i just figured it out for myself. i've been producing my own music for nearly 10 years! but ultimately i am a songwriter. i just want to create music and melodies and write my lyrics. production is a whole different thing.

either way, i was pretty happy with the results. we put together a demo and so far it has a really nice vibe. i took the track home and got to work on the lyrics, which i wanted to share with you! i'm pretty happy with them, although listening back to the recording i'm not sure the song has everything it needs. i don't know if it's a lyrical thing or a musical thing but i'm sure it'll get there as we continue working on it. i'm sure these lyrics will end up looking pretty different by the time it's all finished. i would share the music here as well but unfortunately i cannot legally. i'll see if i can get some footage though next time we're in the studio!
